Corgis
Scottish and Boston Terriers
Greyhounds
Even a dog that knows how to swim can jump in a pool and not be able to get out, which could lead to drowning, so always keep an eye on your pup when they are near the water.
Here are a few doggie swimming tips to keep in mind when teaching your dog to swim:
- Avoid excessive noise
- Use encouragement - treats and toys can be used to encourage your dog to enter the water.
- Never throw them in
- Support their weight until they paddle - even if the dog is wearing a life vest support its midsection and hindquarters in the water until they start paddling and feel comfortable.
- Show them how to get out of the water
- Keep an eye on them
